Verify a PNR (booking reference) on the airline's website

A PNR is the code an airline gives a booking, usually six letters and numbers. Most airlines let anyone holding it open the booking on their website, under Manage booking, with the passenger’s last name. This page explains that general method for any booking, and where to start on ten airlines.

How it works

Four steps on any airline's website.

  1. Find the code

    It is printed on the itinerary or the confirmation email, usually near the top, labelled PNR, booking reference or confirmation number.

  2. Open the airline's website

    Use the airline the code belongs to, usually the one named beside it. A travel agency's code can differ from the airline's.

  3. Choose Manage booking

    It is usually in the main menu or on the home page. Some airlines call it My trips or My booking.

  4. Enter the code and last name

    Type both exactly as on the itinerary and in the passport. What the page then shows, and for which bookings, is up to each airline.

If the booking does not open

Three usual reasons.

  • A typo

    One wrong character in the code, or the name in the wrong field. Try again exactly as on the itinerary.

  • A code from another system

    Agencies and partner airlines can use their own codes. Ask whoever made the booking for the airline's code.

  • A booking that has ended

    A cancelled booking, or an unpaid hold the airline has released, stops opening.
